FELIX SCHICHL | Director and Story Artist for animation

Experience as a director

So far I have directed 2 TV series with a total of 78 episodes of 11 minutes each.
I supervised the projects from pre-production to the finished episode with a strong focus on storyboard and layout. I guided both in-house and overseas teams and was a constant point of contact for the department leads to ensure a consistent narrative and look of the show.

My skills as a director include:

  • Effective communication with clients, authors, producers and other stakeholders, ensuring a collaborative and cohesive production process.
  • Thorough script analysis to assess feasibility, identify weaknesses and strengths, and address design requirements.
  • Expertise in adapting existing IPs (intellectual properties) for animation, including style and look development.
  • Oversight of design departments, including characters, sets, props, and color.
  • Supervision of voice recordings alongside voice director.
  • Development of comprehensive storyboard guides and a film language tailored to the unique characteristics of each IP.
  • In-depth supervision of the story department, ensuring a seamless and compelling narrative flow.
  • Adding purposeful sequences into narratives to enhance and elongate episodes when needed.
  • Collaborative animatic editing alongside editors.
  • In-depth supervision of the layout department.
  • Oversight of animation and compositing alongside department leads, with a focus on the narrative.
  • Conception and writing of title sequences and teasers.

Projects

Of the two projects I directed, one has not yet been released and is still under lock and key.
This is the other project I have directed:

Knight Rusty

In a world where everything is made of scrap metal, Knight Rusty thinks he's the bravest and boldest knight in all of Scrapland. In reality, however, he is a loud-mouthed braggart, and if it weren't for damsel Bo and the cheeky dragon Cole, Rusty would be in big trouble on every dangerous adventure. But in the end, Rusty proves time and time again that he is worthy of being a knight, because a heart of stainless steel beats in his cash register chest!

Knight Rusty is based on the bestselling German children's book series "Ritter Rost" by Jörg Hilbert & Felix Janosa.
